SWR ESC Voting Game

Twelve points for the audience: for the SWR3 ESC Party at the Schwarzwaldhalle Karlsruhe, we developed a mobile voting game that let 1,600 guests build their personal ESC ranking — and follow live how close they came to the official final result.

From the stage to the smartphone

A party turns interactive

How can an ESC party become more interactive? And how do you bridge online and offline — from the smartphone in your hand to the big stage? These were the questions SWR brought to us.

Our answer: a mobile voting game as a web app that turns spectators into players. One QR code on the big screen is all it takes — and your own smartphone becomes part of the show.

Ranking via drag and drop

The web app runs directly in the browser — no app download required. Guests intuitively sort the ESC acts into their personal ranking via drag and drop while the show continues on stage.

The barrier stays minimal, the fun maximal: from the first scan to a submitted ranking takes only moments.

Cheer along & win

How close are you to the original?

The twist: the high score measures how closely your ranking matches the official ESC final result — with every point awarded in the final, the tension rises, until the award ceremony on stage closes the loop from online back to offline. Of around 3,000 guests in the sold-out Schwarzwaldhalle, 1,600 actively played along — an activation rate that speaks for itself, and a format that can easily travel to future events.
