Typewriter
“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression” — Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 19.
60 seconds for press freedom
The “TYPEWRITER” project was born as a student film production at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Alongside a web platform and posters, the heart of this integrated campaign is the dramatic 60-second commercial designed to shake up audiences worldwide and rally them for press freedom.
A journalist sits at a table in a warehouse, typing on an old typewriter. As he types, shots suddenly ring out from all directions and the journalist is fatally hit. With his last breath he strikes the typewriter one more time, the screen goes black and the claim appears: “For many journalists, free expression still means death.”
From cinema spot to microsite
The spot aired in 2011 in selected cinemas and on German television on the RTL group’s channels as well as N24 and Arte. Alongside the RED DOT junior award 2011, it won numerous international awards.
Norman Scholl was copywriter, Christian Hergenröther led production and Andreas Roth directed. Florian Panier was responsible for editing, Philipp Kobilke composed the music and Alex Beier operated the camera. Pixelcloud supported both concept and production and developed the microsite.
