Maestro Margarini

For everyone who ever wondered what actually happens inside an opera house: together with the BAVARIAN STATE OPERA we re-conceived, designed, animated and programmed the children’s website Maestro Margarini.

Cultural education for children

Grand opera for small guests

The Bavarian State Opera in Munich is one of the most renowned opera houses in the world, with a remarkable history and tradition. All the more reason we were delighted to be commissioned with the concept, design and development of its children’s website.

The brief: introduce the State Opera’s world playfully to a young audience aged 5–10 — with a screen design that matches the artistic language of the opera house while appealing to children.

Character design & art style

A maestro with a sixties look

The protagonist of the storytelling website is the mascot “Maestro Margarini”, for whom we first created a new character design. The art style was inspired by vintage posters from the 1960s: no outlines at all — everything is rendered in flat shapes and colours.

Curtain up — the show can begin!

Create the perfect opera costume in the wardrobe, make the ballerina shine in the spotlight in the lighting game, work out where 100 musicians belong in the orchestra game, and rediscover stage props in the big prop store in the memory game.

And what happens on stage? Our Maestro loves conducting the family performances — where every question is answered and wonderful stories are told.

A happy client

The relaunch of Maestro Margarini was a great success — and the Bavarian State Opera more than satisfied. The next commission followed promptly: the opera quiz app “Intermezzo”.
